RETIREE Melvin Low, 64, was glad to have settled his assessment tax in full with the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) as he walked away with a smart television set in a lucky draw contest.

“I usually pay my assessment tax twice a year. As I was about to make the payment, I was told about the contest and decided to try my luck.

“I can’t believe that I won a television set,” he said, adding that he was looking forward to next year’s lucky draw.

Low was among the 50 winners of the lucky draw for ratepayers who paid their 2019 assessment tax in full to the MBPP by Feb 28.

Some of the other prizes were bicycles, tablet computers, smartphones, laptop computers, air purifiers and shopping vouchers. The winner of the first prize of a Samsung Galaxy S9 was not present to collect the prize.

MBPP secretary Addnan Mohd Razali presented the prizes to the winners at a prize-giving ceremony in Komtar recently.

In his opening speech, Addnan said there were 58,386 property owners eligible for the lucky draw as compared to 28,471 last year.

“The council hopes that the lucky draw contest will encourage ratepayers to settle their assessment tax as soon as possible.”

The names of the lucky winners are posted on the council’s official website www.mbpp.gov.my.

The lucky draw to reward ratepayers who pay the full-year assessment has been held since 2014.
