BUMIPUTRAS need to get out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves to become successful entrepreneurs, says Deputy Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli.
He said the entrepreneurial sector was a catalyst for economic development and more should think big and venture into business.
“The ministry wants to be a key driver in bringing bumiputra entrepreneurship to the next level,” he said during the launch of the Slim River mini hydro plant.
“Entrepreneurship can help people get out of poverty and create job opportunities too,” said Mohd Hatta, adding that the National Entrepreneurship Framework was expected to be launched in July.
Mohd Hatta added that the mini hydro plant, which was developed by Zeqna Corporation Sdn Bhd, was an example of a success story by a bumiputra entrepreneur.
He said the renewable energy industry has plenty of potential which has yet to be tapped fully.
“By 2025, the government has targeted at least 25% growth in the renewable energy industry,” he said.
Located about 35km from Slim River town, the 6MW mini hydro plant can generate some 39,000MWh of electricity annually.
