KUANTAN: The Rotary Club of Indera Mahkota will be holding its inaugural fundraising run in collaboration with the Kuantan Municipal Council on May 1.

Organising chairman S. Mahenthran said they had selected Labour Day for the run specifically to recognise workers’ contributions to the economy that supports the local communities directly and indirectly.

“The run is also to introduce our club to society. We have been around for more than 30 years and we want the people to know that we exist. The public can come to us if they need help,” he said.

Mahenthran said the funds raised would be channelled to the club’s charity programmes such as assisting the Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) Tunas Seri Teruntum, National Stroke Association of Malaysia and also for the agricultural compost farming project at Kampung Orang Asli Batu 14.

Club president Norbaiti Jarabe said the run would be a community gathering rather than a competitive event.

“It is a 5km distance fun run which will start at Taman Tasik Bandar in Indera Mahkota. All participants will get running kits such as T-shirt, bib number and finishing medal.

“Food and drink will also be served during the event. There are many attractive lucky draw prizes for the participants as well,” he said.

Norbaiti said cakes made by PDK children would also be served for free to show support for them.

The club is targeting 500 participants for its first running event. It is open to male and female runners without any age limit.

Those interested in participating can visit or contact Mahenthran at 019-952 8618, Norbaiti at 016-797 5994 or Alex Yen at 017-939 3623 for more information.
