Young girls’ artistic show of thanks to volunteers

IREKA Cares volunteers and young girls from Open Hands Children’s Home spent an artistic morning making cards and painting canvas bags together.

Ireka Cares is Ireka Corporation Bhd’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Its philosophy is to encourage Ireka volunteers to engage with underprivileged children and spend valuable time with them through activities and events.

Open Hands in Kajang, is a shelter for girls, half of whom are from the orang asli community.

During the event at Weaning Tots in MyTown Shopping Centre, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, the 14 girls from Open Hands used their creativity to produce artistic and beautifully finished products, which they were able to take home with them.

The event marked the finale of Ireka Cares’ three-year collaboration with Open Hands.

The action committee is in discussion with Ireka’s management on the next children-focused organisation it will work with.

“Working with the Open Hands girls and their caregivers over the last three years has been both humbling and a privilege,” said Ireka Cares president Najla Wan Ab Rahman Omar.

“The girls were a delight to spend time with and although we are sad to bid them goodbye, I know that our volunteers will be spending time with the girls again in future.

“I take this opportunity to thank our volunteers for their commitment and time in making a difference to young lives,” she added.
