IT may soon be ‘endgame’ for the Avengers series but the love for Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters is still strong among diehard fans in Penang.
This was evident at the Marvel Superheroes Collections Exhibition at Mydin Mall Bukit Mertajam, on the Penang mainland.
At the recent two-day exhibition, hundreds of shoppers and visitors had the chance of catching some of their favourite characters during a cosplay meet-and-greet session with cosplayers wearing superhero suits from the MCU.
Among those in the crowd was Maisarah Mohamad, 35, who stopped by the exhibition while window-shopping with her 10-year-old daughter.
Maisarah, who was seen taking selfies with a Captain Marvel cosplayer, said she became a diehard fan of the superheroes in the MCU since watching the first Avengers movie in 2012.
“Earlier, I used to follow Marvel movies like Iron Man and Captain America, but my family and I started getting all hyped over them since watching The Avengers.
“We would make it a point to catch every single instalment of the Marvel series on the big screen,” she said when met at the mall.
“My children also love the characters, as they are fascinated with the superpowers the heroes possess and exhibit,” she added.
The exhibition, which featured over 150 merchandise, figurines and weapon gimmicks from the MCU, also saw activities like Playstation 4 games demo, a quiz and trivia contest and a collector’s hobbies booth open to the public.
The collection at the exhibition belonged to 35-year-old company facilities manager Muhammad Anis Fakhri.
Muhammad Anis said he wanted to share his collection with the public and pay tribute to the MCU with the upcoming Avengers: Endgame movie which is scheduled to open in Malaysian cinemas on April 24.
“I am happy to share my collection with everyone here, as I wish to spread the joy of collecting these merchandise from the movies,” he said.
State Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin, who is also Seberang Jaya assemblyman, launched the exhibition.
He said indulging in hobbies such as collecting merchandise from movies is a healthy one.
“Collecting things that one likes and favours is a healthy hobby, especially for the young ones because it helps in forming their self-consciousness and identity.
“Besides, there are also a lot of positive things for people to learn from the Marvel movies, like the act of coming and working together in saving the world,” he said.
“Additionally, hobbies like these can also foster interest among the young to pursue fields like science, engineering and technology as the movies revolve around these fields,” he added.
