Inspiring confidence in forging one’s own path

Liu with her second book ‘In Your Skin’ which is available for sale at all MPH bookstores

RADIO presenter Freda Liu has published her latest personal development book In Your Skin featuring 15 women.

The book is centred around different women who have found their successes from their career, their sense of adventure, their faith, through their families and friendships and through their contributions to the community.

“And these people are all Malaysians,” said Liu.

She was among the speakers at the Star WOW Fiesta 2019 held in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

Among the characters featured in the book were Heidy Quah from Refuge for the Refugees, who started her endeavours at only 18.

Quah was moved to do good for society because of her faith as well seeing injustices in society.

“Trust me, I wasn’t thinking like Heidy at 18.

“Vicki Treadell, the former British High Commissioner to Malaysia was another notable person mentioned in the book.

“She did so much for building relations in Malaysia and empowering women across all strata of society. She was only here for four years.

“Her humble beginnings started when she did clerical work in foreign service in the UK,” Liu shared.

Liu was also inspired to pen the book based on her self-discovery journey which has had its fair share of both good and less memorable moments.

“Sometimes there is pressure of doing what society expects of you as an individual and as a woman.

“At times, I feel inspired when I look at people who have decided to make their mark by forging their own path and that has made a difference in the world.

“Imagine the world without having known the likes of Nelson Mandela or Mother Teresa,” said Liu, who loves personal development books.

“In Your Skin would appeal to those looking for inspiration, including both the younger set of audience as well as those who are in search of their true self.

“I hope the younger generation would be less pressured to be like others and to be wary of social media’s pressures.

“The book would also be relevant to those are in a constant struggle to be comfortable with who they are, their purpose and calling in life,” said Liu.

In Your Skin is sold at all MPH bookstores – one of the partners at the Star WOW Fiesta 2019.

MPH also had a booth during the WOW Fiesta selling books written by female authors.
