IN conjunction with Tunku Abdul Rahman University College’s (TAR UC) 50th anniversary celebration, the Engineering and Technology Faculty (FOET) organised an insightful forum to look at some of the issues and concerns pertinent to artificial intelligence (AI).

The forum held in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers’ (IEEE) Computational Intelligence Society, at the TAR UC Kuala Lumpur Main Campus in Setapak.

About 160 participants comprising students, academicians, IET members and engineering field experts were present to gain insight into the impact of AI in various fields and how to prepare and adapt themselves for the integration of AI.

A panel of four speakers — Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) data economy director Dr Karl Ng Kah Hou,

VROC Artificial Intelligence chief executive officer Juarez Salih Lowe, Assoc Prof Dr Chan Chee Seng from Universiti Malaya’s Artificial Intelligence Department, Computer Science & Information Technology Faculty and IET Malaysia Network’s Assistant Prof Pang Jia Yew – addressed the audience.

With a balanced representation from the government, engineering practitioners and academia, the forum was an all-encompassing platform to discuss the potentials of AI as well as to dispel myths and fear towards AI.
