SERI KEMBANGAN: Three new water pumps are now in operation to channel rainwater from the retention pond along Jalan Kuyoh here to Sungai Kuyoh when flooding happens.
The three water pumps, installed by the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS), are part of a RM3.5mil project to upgrade the retention pond which began in 2017.
It was meant to be completed by May this year.
However, the current rainy season has prompted Tenaga Nasional Bhd to connect the electricity supply to the pumps ahead of time.
Jalan Kuyoh is a low-lying area and a hotspot for floods.
Apart from installing the new and stronger water pumps, JPS has also upgraded the retention pond in Seri Serdang and is looking to widen Sungai Kuyoh.
During a press conference at the Jalan Kuyoh pump house Saturday (April 6), Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah said the new water pumps would run automatically whenever sensors detected rising water levels at the retention pond.
He added that they were 2.5 times more powerful than the old pumps.
He said JPS would station a permanent officer to monitor water levels and to control the water pumps manually should there be any issues.
A representative from JPS said out of the three, one was still not functional as the panel board of the third water pump at the substation was affected during a recent flood.
However, he said it would not take too long to repair.
Also at the press conference were Subang Jaya Municipal councillors Wong Yii Seang and Tai Cheng Heng.
