FORMER Minister of International Trade and Industry Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz will be one of the speakers at a high-level conference organised by the Penang Women Chamber of Commerce (PWCC).
The one-day conference themed ‘Inspiring Future Leaders’ will also feature Bank of China (Hong Kong) head of policy and economic researcher Dr Tee Kwok Leung as a speaker.
It will be held at G Hotel Gurney ballroom in Penang on March 30.
The conference’s objective is to create a platform to enable stakeholders, who wield influence in the government and private sector, academics, and civil societies, as well as entrepreneurs, to strategise and focus in increasing the participation of women in various sectors.
PWCC president Datuk Annie Chin said the conference was to create awareness and inspire women to succeed in their respective fields by learning from the success stories of others at the event.
“It would also serve to dispel the male chauvinism myth or misconception of either gender playing a more important role than the other,” said Chin at a press conference in Komtar, Penang recently.
PWCC adviser and state Women and Family Development and Gender Inclusiveness Committee chairman Chong Eng, who was also present at the press conference, said the organisation should be commended for filling up 90% of the seats at the conference.
“The Gender Inclusiveness Policy was developed in Penang to guide the state to achieve gender parity through adopting a balanced composition of 40% women, 40% men, and the balance of 20% to both genders who are fit for any positions.
“Such ratio will be implemented in all levels of the Penang state agencies,” she said.
Chin also said since PWCC had received overwhelming response to the conference, it had restricted the number to 400 people.
“The event is RM300 per person, which also comes with a grand dinner at 8pm after the conference from 9am to 5pm,” she added.
Bulk purchasers of 10 will be charged RM260 per person, while bulk purchasers of five will be RM280 per person.
Those interested can call PWCC vice-president Kristine Leong at 012-4767076 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will be present to open the conference and deliver a keynote address.
