YAYASAN Bank Rakyat (YBR) provides education assistance to excellent students from underprivileged backgrounds.

It was acknowledged as one of the best foundations in the Competitive Analysis of Selected Successful Corporate Foundations in Malaysia, a research project led by Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) deputy vice-chancellor (corporate affairs and quality) Prof Datuk Dr Ishak Ismail.

YBR recently gave out scholarships to outstanding students pursuing their education at foundation and bachelor degree levels in public and private institutions of higher education in Malaysia and abroad.

Of the total RM24.88mil allocated for education funds, RM2.25mil was set aside for scholarships this year.

To apply, candidates must be Malaysians aged 18 to 30 years embarking on their first semester on a full-time basis in the fields of science, computing, engineering, information technology, management and humanities.

Applicants who wish to pursue foundation or matriculation must have a minimum of 8As in the 2018 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia.

Those pursuing a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.50 in their Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia, Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia, foundation, matriculation or diploma.

The YBR scholarships were introduced to fulfil the foundation’s objective of producing highly skilled human capital to match the job market.

YBR chairman Datuk Noripah Kamso said the initiative was part of the foundation’s commitment to support the National Education Philosophy to nurture an individual intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically.

“YBR is committed to ensuring that every student has equal access to quality education regardless of their socio-economic status in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals,” she added.

Since its establishment in 2007, YBR has allocated RM131.5mil worth of education funds as its commitment to the education sector in ensuring that young people who are assets to the nation have the chance to realise their true potential.

To-date, YBR’s education fund products have benefited 4,904 students across the country.
