THE upcoming Asean Super 8 is expected to attract 20,000 high calibre trade visitors and professionals as Malaysia plays host to the inaugural event.
The expo, from March 19 to 21, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) in Kuala Lumpur, is organised by UBM Malaysia.
UBM Malaysia co-chairman Tan Sri Mohd Azumi Mohamed said the event would welcome over 500 participating companies and have five international pavilions featuring Germany, India, China, Singapore and Turkey.
It is positioned as a platform to bring together local and international companies as well as players from the construction, engineering, energy, heavy machinery and equipment industries, as well as security.
Works Minister Baru Bian is expected to launch the event on March 19.
Mohd Azumi said Asean Super 8 was created to consolidate trade shows and events related to the built environment under one roof, instead of being held separately in multiple, fragmented events.
“Asean Super 8 is a trade exhibition cum conference related to the construction and built industries.
“It will feature more than 60 free seminars covering the industry across building, power and safety.
“Among the topics are Greening Malaysian Construction, Enhancing Vertical Transportation Systems Safety with Malaysian Standards, Security Ecosystem, Smart Cities and many more,” he said at the Asean Super 8 press conference at Mitec in Kuala Lumpur.
Asean Super 8 combines eight established events, including the Asean M&E Show, Tenaga Expo & Forum, Asean Solar Expo & Forum, Asean Lift Expo & Forum, Asean Ecolight, Ecobuild Southeast Asia, HeavyMach and IFSEC Southeast Asia.
Apart from the main trade show, the event is also working with leading government bodies and associations to provide a content-driven experience for guests.
This will include seminars organised by the Malaysian Asset Project Management Association, Malaysian Photovoltaics Industry Association and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
Asean Super 8 is held in conjunction with the Construction Industry Development Board’s 19th International Construction Week (ICW) and Malaysian Security Industry Excellence Award (MSIEA) 2019.
Themed Beyond 2020, this year’s ICW will focus on issues, challenges and solutions in embracing technology to propel the industry forward in tandem with information and communications technology (ICT) advancement.
As part of ICW’s initiatives, there will also be a business matching programme with representatives from nine countries participating in an incoming buying mission.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), which is organising the mission, has forecasted sales value of RM100mil.
Asean Super 8 is endorsed and supported by the Works Ministry, Construction Industry Development Board, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, the police, Fire and Rescue Department and Matrade.
