THE Smart Selangor free bus service has two new routes from Kajang to Putrajaya and Bandar Baru Bangi respectively.
Launching the new routes at Kompleks Perhentian Kajang, Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said it was the services’ first bus route out of the state.
Buses on the KJ04 route that ends on Dataran Gemilang, Putrajaya, have 34 stops, including Putrajaya mosque, government offices, the public library, Alamanda Putrajaya and the Presint 9 and 16 residential areas.
Meanwhile, the KJ05 route has 29 stops which include Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, PKNS Complex, Section 9 and 16 residential areas, Bandar Baru Bangi clinic, Greenview Islamic School and the UKM KTM station.
Amirudin said the state had allocated RM30mil for Smart Selangor buses this year with the hope that new routes would contribute to the increased use of public transportation.
This brings the number of Smart Selangor bus routes within the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) jurisdiction to five.
MPKj president Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar said up to December last year, there were about 3.49 million passengers using the Smart Selangor service.
“The number shows that more people are taking advantage of free public transport.”
Also present at the launch was State Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han, who said the next new route was expected to be in Subang Jaya. — By KATHLEEN MICHAEL
