Several roads in George Town to close for temple festival

SEVERAL roads in George Town will be closed to make way for the Miao Hui (Temple Festival) for Chinese New Year this Saturday.

Roads such as Lebuh King, Lebuh Bishop, Lebuh Gereja, Lebuh Acheh, Lorong Pitt, Lorong Ah Quee, Lorong Soo Hong, Penang Street and Cannon Street will be closed from 7pm on Friday to midnight of Saturday for the event.

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, who is the event coordinator, said the road closure ahead of the event was to allow for preparation and setting up of the venue.

“We hope motorists will avoid the venue and seek alternative routes around the area.

“Those calling for ride hailing services such as Grab can mark their pick up and drop off point at Jalan Padang Kota Lama and walk over to the festival,” he said during a press conference recently.

Police personnel and volunteers will also be deployed at the intersections of the roads to help coordinate traffic.
