RUMAH Seni Selangor (Russel), a home for art enthusiasts to ignite their passion, gives art lovers and practitioners a space to broaden their creativity.

Launched in April 2018, Russel allows artists to work in an area where they can produce their work within a relaxed ambience.

To help artists’ along with their projects, a complete set of equipment is available to get the creative process going.

The art residency also has other programmes such as fine arts workshops, handicraft, art forums and art exhibitions for the public to participate in.

The residency was formed for the community to connect with each other and the public through the artists’ work, to create a better understanding of art.

The first exhibition here titled “Akar”

featured the works of three artists – Anasuha Suhairi, Arina Kiswantoh and Mat Ramli Mansor.

The artists were required to create and finish their art pieces within six months to meet the exhibition’s deadline.

The three artists said the exhibition’s theme involved observation and a sense of what they were feeling which was translated on canvas.

Anasuha named her creation rasa which means feeling. She described how her emotions and observation of her surroundings helped inspire her in her work.

“My concept stems from what I observe and feel which I then translate to art,” she said.Akar exhibition director Samsuddin Lappo said the exhibition was the first in Russel and the next batch of artists would be featured later this month.

“As the process continues, the next batch of artists will be given a chance to express their inspiration and creativity at Russel.

“Russel will hold a few programmes every month such as fine art workshops, handicraft, art forum for the public and also an exhibition to showcase the artists’ work,” he said.

Russel is located at 18, Jalan 16/4 in Petaling Jaya.
