The families of the two elderly women, who died while trying to get hold of free food coupons at ICC Pudu, has requested for privacy.
According to ICC Pudu manager, Chin Huey Yee, who attended the funerals earlier Wednesday (Jan 30), the families needed space to grief and would speak to the organiser after the funerals were over.
"The management of ICC Pudu wanted to make a contribution to the families of the victims, but they wanted to be left alone.
"I hope the media will also respect the families' privacy, as they cope with their loss. However, we will visit them again to offer assistance," she said.
The victims are identified as Ah Poh, 85, and Law Ion Nang, 78, died after being critically injured in a rush for free food coupons when more than a thousand people dashed for just 200 free meals on Monday (Jan 28).
The free buffet meals were meant to be taken by Feb 11 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festivities but a huge crowd scrambled for the coupons at the hawker centre at the Pudu Integrated Commercial Complex.Did you find this article insightful?
