BATA Malaysia presented school shoes to 55 children and youths from Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Buloh for the new school year.
Accompanied by parents, several community facilitators and Bata Malaysia representatives, the children got to pick out their Bata school shoes at its latest store in Nu Sentral, Kuala Lumpur.
The youngsters, aged between six and 21, were clearly thrilled during the outing, which happened when village management committee president Hanim Apeng contacted Bata Malaysia in the hopes of acquiring school supplies for the underprivileged children.
Bata Malaysia corporate business development senior manager Datuk James Selvaraj said Bata was moved by the request and took the initiative to organise the special programme as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
“We believe that through this small gesture, we would be able to reduce some of the parents’ expenses in terms of preparing their children for the 2019 school year.”
The donation was part of Bata Children’s Programme, a volunteer-led community initiative launched in 2011 that focuses on helping underprivileged children in countries where the brand is present.
