SELANGOR Opposition leader Rizam Ismail has been handed a difficult task in his first term as an assemblyman.
The Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman was unanimously selected to represent the five-member Opposition in the state legislative assembly following the 14th General Election in May.
However, Rizam has said that he will do his best to ensure that there is a check and balance in the state.
“It is a new experience for me, but I know I will be able to do well in my new role,” said Rizam, 37.
He added that he was in awe of Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and hoped to get to know him better.
“Tuanku is a very outspoken Ruler and will not hesitate to rebuke us if we overstep our boundaries as elected representatives,” said Rizam.
He said this would certainly ensure that all elected state representatives are cautious of their conduct and what they say.
“I’m looking forward to serving efficiently in my role as the state’s Opposition leader and will work hard to meet Tuanku’s expectations,” said Rizam.
