Food operators worried ruling will suck up their earnings

Food operators are finding it challenging to meet an impending ban on plastic straws, to be introduced from Jan 1 onwards, but enforcement against violators will only begin in 2020.

THE plastic straw ban in the Federal Territories will take effect on Jan 1, but food operators are still in the dark on how to go about it.

They are at a loss as to where to buy the permitted alternatives, as the Federal Territories Ministry has yet to publish the list of certified biodegradable straw manufacturers while Sirim Bhd is still in the midst of the certification process.
