KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Think City will continue to collaborate on projects in an effort to turn downtown Kuala Lumpur into a creative and cultural district.

In the pipeline are additional joint projects involving planning, conservation, public realm improvement, space activation and capacity building.

DBKL and Think City signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to extend their collaboration for another three years.

Fourteen facade upgrading works were completed since they signed the previous MoU in 2015.

Among them are three shophouses in Lebuh Ampang and public spaces in Laman Tun Perak, Laman Medan Tuanku and Jalan Panggung Parklet.

The new and improved Lorong Bandar 13 was unveiled in conjunction with the signing ceremony at Ruang by Think City in Jalan Hang Kasturi.

The RM30,000 project includes among others new culvert drains, lights, fittings and pavements to make the lane a functional public area and give businesses in the area a boost.

Lorong Sisi Jalan Yap Ah Loy is also undergoing a beautification exercise after completing a consultative design process with local businesses and communities.

The lane adopted a placemaking concept where the community’s thoughts, ideas and aspirations were taken into account for the final design.

Think City managing director Hamdan Abdul Majeed said The Citi Foundation organised the placemaking activities, which included Arts on the Move, Green Transformation and a social inclusion programme.

He added the community must play a role in maintaining the lanes.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said the yet-to-be gazetted Local Plan 2020-2040 will be used as a benchmark for the upgrading projects.

The completion of the Lorong Bandar 13 project marks the start of refurbishment for the remaining eight lanes.
