THE Productivity Nexus for Retail and F&B officially announced its first Nexus Awards 2019 for the retail and F&B industry.

The announcement came in conjunction with the “Nexus Retail and F&B Rockin’ Talk 2018” held at Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The Nexus Awards aims to be Malaysia’s most prestigious retail and F&B awards event in Malaysia, themed “An Edutainment Night: Rocking Retail and F&B”.

Nexus Awards 2019 for Retail and F&B will showcase 15 categories in conjunction with an innovative sharing session by established entrepreneurs in the retail and F&B industries.

The event was attended by the who’s who in the retail and F&B industry, from guest of honour and founder of Ikhasas Group Tengku Datuk Hishammuddin Zaizi Azman Shah and entrepreneur and Royal Court Selangor council member Tan Sri Syed Yusof Tun Syed Nasir to celebrity chef Datuk Chef Wan and Dome Café Group managing director Nigel Oakley.

Guests were entertained by strains of classic rock — befitting the theme of the event — as well as the privilege of being at top-level discussions on the future of F&B and retail industries.

Called the “Rocking Retail and F&B” Edutainment Talk, featured speakers included Syed Yusof, Fave founder Joel Neoh, Chef Wan, Terry Goh of Kyochon 1991, Oakley, Datuk Louis Chang of Annkang, Blackbox Insights’ Desmond Ng and the man behind Iron Chef Thailand, Dhin Boonsombat.

In the F&B discussion, “Key Success Factors in International F&B Concepts”, panel speakers Chef Wan, Boonsombat, Goh and Oakley concluded that besides all elements in running an F&B business integrating well together, such as the ambience, the chef and talents, a business should strive to stay relevant with constant care for its patrons.

It bodes well to specialise in their culinary styles, maintain the human touch in service and yet focus on efficiency and details.

The following talk on retail “Tales from the Trenches: Our Productivity Journey” saw panel speakers Neoh, Ogawa executive director Datuk Louis Chong and Ng conclude retail was heading towards more online-to-offline commerce with a heavy slant towards mobile shopping.

In order to ride the wave of upcoming new technologies, fresh young talents need to be groomed.

Both talks were moderated by BFM lead producer and presenter Freda Liu.
