PARKSON Sunway Pyramid is sporting a fresh new look to give it a more youthful feel after 21 years in operation.

The three-level mall now has its own beauty section, a denim studio, a baby room and play area, and offers more than 400 brands.

Ambient lighting and tasteful decor give the 10,219sq m department store a sophisticated look.

Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Law Boon Eng said they spent about RM10mil on the makeover.

“We felt it was time for a fresh new look in line with changes to our merchandise and brand mix,” he said in an interview.

Law revealed it took a year to renovate the place “floor by floor” to cater to customers, especially younger shoppers.

There are now 47 Parkson stores in Malaysia since the brand started in 1987, he shared. “We have 45 outlets in China, 15 in Indonesia and another five in Vietnam,” he said, adding that they were planning to set up their first store in Laos this month or early next year.

“We are looking beyond Malaysia to expand this 31-year-old homegrown brand,” he added.

Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng, wife of Parkson founder and Lion Group executive chairman Tan Sri William Cheng was present at the relaunch party to unveil the new look.

Also present were Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer H.C. Chan, Parkson Retail Asia chief executive officer Michael Remsen as well as guests and business partners.

There was also a fashion show with models parading in the latest collections on sale at the store. Parkson marketing manager Tan Ling Ai said the relaunch gave guests a chance to experience the five departments – cosmetics and perfumes (beauty); handbags and shoes; fashion for women and men; home and living; as well as children and baby.

Tan said out of the 400 brands, 80 were exclusive to the department store and many would appeal to the younger generation.

On the ground floor, in addition to famous brands such as Chanel, Dior and SK-II, there are two new fragrance brands, namely Kenzo and Cartier. Also exclusive to Parkson Sunway Pyramid is Novu Aesthetics, a brand from Singapore.

On lower ground floor 1, customers can look forward to the latest addition – Denim Studio with brands such as Lavine (exclusively at Parkson), DP, Voir Jeans and Eighteen Plus.

Home makeovers for the festive season will be a breeze at lower ground floor 2 (LG2), with nearly 100 home decor, soft furnishings, bedding and do-it-yourself brands to choose from this month.

Shoppers will be greeted with Christmas decorations, trinkets and trimmings as well as branded Christmas treats like festive cookies, cakes, chocolates and more at Foodpark Supermarket, owned and managed by Parkson.

Also at LG2 is Junior City with nearly 130 children’s and baby brands as well as a play area for a fun shopping environment.

LG2 also has a large selection of luggage choices to satisfy any traveller’s needs.
