KUANTAN: Pahang state government through the Sports Council has awarded RM246,800 in incentives to athletes who won medals in the 19th Malaysia Games (Sukma) held in Perak.
Human Resources, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Hussain said this was a special award under the Pahang Sports Council Excellence Award scheme and given to athletes who won in the Sukma Games, SEA Games, Asia Games, Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games.
“The state government is focused on sports developments in the state and we take note of the achievements and welfare of athletes here, whether at the national or international levels.
“In the recent Sukma Games, the Pahang contingent obtained 33 gold, 20 silver and 30 bronze medals, which is an achievement, and more than the target of 32 gold medals,” Mohd Johari said.
He said the Pahang Sports Council Excellence Award scheme awards were given to 24 athletes in appreciation of their contributions and sacrifices. - Bernama
