Youngsters get first-hand account of job of Fire and Rescue personnel

The youngsters experiencing what it is like to board a Fire and Rescue Department plane.

MIRI: Pupils got the chance to experience first hand the operation of the Miri Fire and Rescue Department air unit when they visited the airbase in Miri airport.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Khiong said the air unit hosted 71 students and eight staff from Tadika Sri Mawar Miri and gave them a tour of the air base.

“The students were given a chance to see our helicopters and even board a plane,” said Law.

“Talks were given on the responsibilities and functions of the air unit,” he said.

Other outreach initiatives by the fire and rescue teams in Miri included a career and fire safety talk and demonstration for students and staff of Tadika Kemas Kampung Pujut Sungai Adong by the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Department staff.

The Miri Fire and Rescue Department also conducted a fire safety talk along with building evacuation training and demonstration to extinguish fires at SK Bekenu Miri, SM Sains Miri and OUB Bank.

Over 600 participants were involved in the outreach programme by the Miri and Lopeng Fire and Rescue Departments.
