MELAKA: About 100 secondary students and teachers from several schools across the state attended a Tax Literacy (Celik Cukai) programme organised by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) at Dewan Tun Perak, Menara Hasil Melaka in Ayer Keroh here.

Negri Sembilan/Melaka IRB director Amnah Tawil said the programme was the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity planned by the IRB for the state this year.

She said the programme focused on students as tax awareness should be inculcated early among future taxpayers.

“The school amenities and educational assistance that the students are enjoying today are the result of the payments made by the previous taxpayers.

“I urge all the students to not forget the responsibility of paying taxes when they start working and earning,” she said.

Also present were Chief Minister Adly Zahari’s special officer for religious affairs Nor Khairi Yusof and IRB Corporate Services Department director Rozina Shaik Osman Merican.

Amnah said besides the tax

literacy programme, the Negri Sembilan/Melaka IRB have also selected five secondary schools in the state to receive one liquid-crystal display (LCD) projector each under its CSR project this year.

She said the selected schools were SMK Tun Syed Zahiruddin, SMK Datuk Haji Talib Karim, SMK Durian Daun, SMKA Sultan Muhammad and SMK Tinggi Perempuan Melaka.

“I hope the projectors will help the teachers in the schools to impart knowledge more effectively to the students,” she said.
