THE Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia and Penang Development Corporation (PDC) will be working together to improve the quality of building construction and ensure workers’ safety at construction sites.
The two bodies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the issue.
CIDB will assist PDC in executing Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) and Safety and Health Assessment System in Construction (SHASSIC) in PDC projects.
CIDB will also equip PDC staff with knowledge on both systems via training aimed at creating awareness on the quality of workmanship as well as the safety and health of the workers.
QLASSIC is a system meant to measure workmanship quality of building construction while the SHASSIC is used to assess safety and health levels at projects.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said at the signing ceremony at the CM’s office that the MoU was proof of PDC’s commitment towards improving workmanship in construction projects.
CIDB Malaysia senior general manager Datuk Elias Ismail said that in an era where development was rampant, it was essential to level up the quality and safety of construction projects.
“CIDB uses SHASSIC to look into three components of projects — document check, worksite inspection and employee interviews.”
