KUANTAN: A total of 405 Year One pupils from 83 primary schools throughout this district have reading difficulties although the learning session for the year is almost over.

Kuantan district education office (PPD) director Mohd Razali Mustafar said the 405 were originally among the 3,677 pupils who had reading difficulties since the beginning of their enrolment in early January.

“The number was obtained from a special test held to find out their ability to read and write,” he said when met at the My Friend Quick Read (BCK) Programme here at SK Tanah Putih Baharu, which was also attended by Pahang Foundation general manager Datuk Mahmud Mohd Nawawi.

Razali also said that the Kuantan PPD, with the help of the Pahang Foundation, would try to overcome the problem by producing a BCK module to be used in all primary schools throughout the Kuantan district. – Bernama
