Developer: Allow temple relocation as demands met and new site provided

The new temple built by the developer was completed in June last year.

ONE City Development Sdn Bhd, the developer that owns the land on which the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25 sits, has agreed to push back the date for them to take possession of the land by nearly a month to Nov 22.

This comes after strong protest by the temple's devotees yesterday, which started as early as 8.30am.

One City development director Yaw Sheng Fung said the new date was set to meet the requests of devotees and in view of the upcoming Holy Festival of Lights.

"As a gesture of good will and without prejudice to One City's rights as the landowner, we are agreeable to delay the relocation exercise to Nov 22.

"However, the rule of law needs to be respected and fulfilled," he stressed.

One City also reiterates that it was a relocation exercise, and not a demolition, as alleged by various parties.

"As a responsible developer, we have listened to and met the demands of the Hindu devotees through the lawful temple management committee."

Yaw added that they had provided a 0.4ha piece of land in USJ 23 and allocated RM2.5mil to the costs of construction of the new temple.
