SHAH ALAM residents living in terrace and bungalows will now have to separate their recyclable waste beginning Sunday (Oct 21).
The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) said it was starting their waste separation collection scheme to educate the community on the benefits of proper waste management and green efforts for sustainability.
However, MBSA’s corporate communications head Shahrin Ahmad said those who failed to comply would not be penalised or summoned.
He said the exercise was merely an awareness campaign to cultivate waste separation as lifestyle habit for the community.
Shahrin also said the move was to help reduce the amount of garbage sent to the landfill.
“Owners will have to identify and sort their non-recyclable and recycleable waste, clean it and store it in a clear bag.
"The recyclable materials need to be placed beside the garbage bin for collection on Sunday,” he added.
Among the recyclable items that MBSA accepts are newspapers, boxes, paper, aluminum, tin, metal, electronic products like batteries, fridge, television, computers, and handphones, as well as plastic bottles.
Residents could also opt to send their recycling materials to nine centres (PKS) on their own.
The locations for these centre are Persiaran Dato’ Menteri, Section 2, Jalan Kasawari 6/8, Section 6, PKS Jalan Tarian 11/2, Section 11, PKS Jalan Yakin 25/11, Section 25, PKS Taman Teluk Menegun Section 36, PKS Jalan Juruterbang U1/38 Section U1, PKS Jalan Pelapik B U8/B, Section U8, PKS Jalan Tupai 20/16 Section 20 dan PKS Jalan BRP 1/5 Section U20.
