PROMINENT fund manager and former financial journalist Datuk Seri Cheah Cheng Hye has been made the honorable adviser of the Seh Tek Tong Cheah Kongsi in Penang.

A former sub-editor of The Star, Cheng Hye rose to become a financial journalist with the Hong Kong Standard, Asian Wall Street Journal and Far Eastern Economic Review.

He also worked with Morgan Grenfell in Hong Kong before starting his own Hong Kong-based asset management company, Value Partners.

Cheng Hye, 64, said he has always been working to promote Malaysia and Penang in Hong Kong through business exchange and student scholarship programmes.

“There are about 20,000 Malaysians in Hong Kong, and we have a strong bond through various business and social programmes,” he added.

Cheah Kongsi chairman Datuk Cheah Swee Huat said it was a great honour for the association when Cheng Hye agreed to the appointment despite his busy schedule and commitment.

“He has been dubbed as the ‘Gold Finger’ and ‘Warren Buffet of Asia’ and I believe his wisdom and guidance would bring further progress to our 208-year-old clan house,” he said at the association in Lebuh Acheh.
