TEMERLOH: Deputy Works Minister Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir has adopted five underprivileged children in his constituency.
The Temerloh MP said he wanted to set an example in breaking the racial barrier by adopting children of other races.
The children, Choong Daz Si, 12, Choong Sia Xin, 10, and Choong Ding Zhou, five, are siblings whose father recently died from heart attack while M. Gunaselan, 16, and M. Shamala, 12, came from a poor family.
Mohd Anuar said he viewed the five of them as his own children and would look after their schooling expenses and welfare until they reach 18 years of age.
“When I became the MP here, I vowed to adopt some children here under the condition they must be underprivileged.
“What better way to fulfil that than to adopt children from a Chinese and an Indian family.
“I hope other Malays with means can see this small gesture as an example to help people of other races as well. After all, we are all part of the human race,” he said here recently.
The Choong siblings’ mother Renawati, 36, said she was thankful for Mohd Anuar’s assistance since she was now the sole breadwinner of the family.
Gunaselan, a student at SMK Datuk Bahaman, also expressed appreciation to Mohd Anuar for helping him and his sister, saying that he would study hard and not let the MP down.
