THERE is something wrong with people who litter, says Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

The Pakatan Youth leader did not not mince his words at the launch of Mega Gotong Royong 2018, a programme by Kuala Lumpur City Hall held in conjunction with World Clean Up Day.

In his speech at PPR Seri Semarak where the event was held, Nik Nazmi said the public must realise that unmanaged rubbish had a negative impact on communities.

“Places where there is a rubbish problem also have high crime rates and social problems, not to mention the threat of diseases,” said Nik Nazmi.

It was revealed that from Jan 1 to Sep 21 this year, there had been 4,921 reported cases of dengue in Kuala Lumpur.

Of this, 492 were from the Setiawangsa constituency.

In addition, since 2012 the authorities had spent RM170,000 to deal with rat problems, a necessary measure to counter the dangers of leptospirosis.

Also present at the event were Federal Territories deputy Minister  Datuk Shahruddin Md Salleh, secretary-general Datuk Seri Adnan Md Iksan and Alam Flora chief executive officer Mohd Zain Hassan.
