Disabled woman’s determination recognised


KUALA TERENGGANU: The determination shown by a disabled person to start kuih bakul or nian gao and mooncake business turned viral on social sites last year and became an instant inspiration to Malaysians.

The perseverance of Haziqah Nurulhuda Harun in producing delicious halal kuih bakul and mooncakes won her the Tokoh Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) (Woman) award at the Maal Hijrah 1440/2018 Terengganu celebration.

The 22-year-old received RM3,000, a plaque and a certificate of appreciation presented by the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.

Haziqah, who is fondly known as Yaya, began her kuih bakul and mooncake business alone from her house in Kemaman in 2016 and today she has 65 employees to help her in the business venture.

“This award will strengthen my resolve to continue empowering myself and others,” she said. – Bernama
