CHARITY continues to be at the heart of Xim Phou Moon (XPM) Welfare Society’s work as they embrace their 30th anniversary with a dinner reception in Kuala Lumpur to mark the special day.
The society founded by Datuk Tan Leong Hoo donated a total of RM280,800 to 20 organisations including primary schools in China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Speaking at the dinner, Tan thanked contributors and those present for their endless support towards XPM over the years.
“We have been in Malaysia for 30 years now and we want to continue assisting students by providing them proper education as well as fulfilling the needs of the underprivileged locally and abroad,” he said.
Also present were Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, Orando Holdings managing director Datuk Dr Eng Wei Chun, Gintell Sdn Bhd managing director C.Y. Goh, Malaysia Zhejiang Oversea Chinese Association president Zhu Wei Dong, Yok Impex Pte Ltd chief executive officer Peh Yeng Yok, XPM deputy president Loo Phan Kooi as well as XPM honorary advisers Datin Paduka Mother Mangalam, Datin Paduka Khatijah Sulieman, Datuk K.C. Oui, Edwin Cham Hon Hoong and Frankie Chang.
The event at Istana Hotel began with lion dance performances followed by the lighting of a lotus light to bless the occasion.
A special video clip was then screened showcasing XPM’s charitable activities throughout the years.
Representatives from various beneficiaries were invited on stage to receive contributions from XPM.
Beneficiaries of the aid included SJK(C) Kundang in Rawang, SJK(C) Khai Tee in Kuala Selangor, Selangor Council of Welfare and Social Development, Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor, Shepherd’s Centre Foundation, Insan Special Children Welfare Association, Sekolah Semangat Maju in Ipoh, Sin Chew Foundation, Nanyang Press Foundation, China Press and Oriental Daily News charity funds.
The contributions included a sponsorship worth RM10,000 for Star Newspaper-in-Education (NiE) Step Up pullouts.
Donations were also distributed to 10 senior citizens in Kajang, 20 students in Kuala Selangor, XPM Caring Fund in Jerantut, Pahang, poor students in the Guangdong and Yunnan provinces in China, Wettagama Children Home in Sri Lanka and XPM School of Hope in Nakhon, Thailand.
Before the event started, the VIP guests presented ang pow to children, people with disabilities and senior citizens from charity organisations as well as schoolchildren who were invited to the dinner.
Xim Phou Moon has donated more than RM13mil to education and welfare organisations in Malaysia and overseas.
