LOOKING for great travel deals? Then mark your calendars for the MATTA Fair Penang which returns to Setia SPICE Arena this Sept 28 to 30.

With a broader lineup of exhibitors, visitors can expect more value-for-money offerings to exciting destinations both locally and abroad.

The event is organised by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) and features 63 travel companies and tourism organisations.

They will take up 186 booths, said organising chairman Datuk Hamzah Rahmat in a recent press conference at a cafe in George Town.

The fair had been held at the venue in Relau, formerly known as PISA, for many years before moving to the Straits Quay Convention Centre (SQCC) in recent times.

But following the success of the previous edition in SQCC in March, which recorded a sales turnover of around RM20mil, Hamzah said a bigger space was needed to cater to demand.

“This fair will have 50 more booths compared to the last one. Penangites and holidaymakers in the northern region can look forward to a wider range of tourism products and packages,” he pointed out.

The exhibitors include 37 tour and travel agents, with the largest being Beautiful Planet Holiday Tour and Travel taking up 20 booths.

Also represented are the state government tourist offices of Kuala Lumpur and Johor, as well the national tourist office of Jakarta.

Completing the lineup are 13 participating hotels, resorts and theme parks, five banks and five other related service providers.

“We are expecting 30,000 visitors this time compared to 21,500 during the March fair, and also targetting a 50% increase in sales turnover,” Hamzah said.

Malaysia Airlines is once again the fair’s official airline. The carrier offered discounts of up to 30% on fares previously, and is expected to continue with such promotions.

Also returning is the MATTA Fair Buyers Contest, where minimum purchases of RM200 gives one a chance of winning attractive prizes such as return air tickets, cruise holidays, hotel vouchers and theme park admission tickets.

There will also be a Visitors Daily Lucky Draw, with tickets to Bangkok, Hanoi and Melbourne up for grabs. All one has to do is visit the fair.

Besides these, those who place a deposit or make full payment with any exhibitor for a minimum of RM2,000 stands to win a voucher worth RM999 for a package to the Gold Coast.

This is only for the first 200 and valid at the venue only. Other terms and conditions apply.

The fair will be open from 10am to 9pm daily. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.mattafair.org.my.

Further on the horizon, dates have also been fixed for the fairs in 2019.

The first will be from April 5 to 7, followed by another on Oct 11 to 13.

Both will be at the Setia SPICE Arena but are expected to be even bigger, with some 350 booths and more state and national tourism organisations on board.
