KUALA Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz has confirmed his resignation and will be serve his last day on Sept 30, with his replacement expected to be announced by mid-September.
When asked the reason for his resignation, he said it was as had been reported and declined to elaborate.
On what he planned to do after retiring, he merely quipped: "Happy and easy".
It had been reported earlier that Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad had received Amin Nordin's resignation letter on Sept 1.
Khalid said the ministry had a list of "less than five names" as candidates for the next KL mayor, and had already submitted the names to the Prime Minister's office for approval.
"We hope to be able to announce the new KL mayor by mid-September," he said.
Khlaid added that the names were submitted immediately after he received Amin Noordin's resignation letter.
He and Amin Nordin made their statements on the matter when met at the launch of the Kuala Lumpur Laneways Project in Bukit Bintang.
Amin Nordin, who was a former Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) director-general, took office as the 11th mayor of Kuala Lumpur on July 18, 2015, replacing Tan Sri Ahmad Phesal Talib.
When the 63-year-old’s two-year contract was due to expire on July 18, 2017, he was given a two-year extension.
However, question marks arose as to how long he would remain the mayor of KL when Pakatan came to power after the May 9 General Election.
