FEDERAL Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad has requested that Kuala Lumpur City Hall's (DBKL) 2019 budget focus on pro-people and welfare projects.
"DBKL held a briefing on its budget yesterday (Sept 3) for all the MPs in Kuala Lumpur," he said, adding that it was the first time that City Hall was engaging them.
"Two aspects were discussed – the balance of the budget for this year and the allocation for next year's budget.
"I requested that DBKL have more corporate social responsibility-type projects that would benefit the people," Khalid said when met at the launch of the Kuala Lumpur Laneways Project in Bukit Bintang.
When asked to comment on the case of two women involved in the lesbian sex case by the Terengganu Syariah High Court, Khalid said everyone had to respect the law and decision made by the courts.
"It is the law that decides whether the caning should have been done in public.
"If there are people in Terengganu who disagree with it, they can bring it up with their elected assemblyman, who can then move to bring a motion at the state assembly to make any changes," said the Amanah communications director.
Meanwhile, on the court's decision to drop the case against Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, Khalid said it was a decision made by the judge, not the Attorney-General (AG).
"I agree that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should have the right to prosecute, in the event the AG decides not to.
"I also agree with the statement by the AG that he did not have anything to do with the acquittal," said Khalid.
