JOHOR BARU: The 15th Johor Arts Festival (15JohorAF) is back with a line-up of top-notch performances featuring local and international artistes.

The highly anticipated festival organised by Johor Society for the Performing Arts (JSPA) is taking place from Sept 1 to Sept 23 at various locations in Johor Baru.

Comedian Joanne Kam, entertainer Sean Ghazi, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) and a list of other top local artistes are part of the art festival.

Known for her bold and outrageous material, Malaysian comedian Joanne Kam will be performing a one-women comedy show as part of her latest La La Lian nationwide tour.

Kam’s act is centred around her personal journey, depicting how she blossomed from a shy girl from Ipoh to the one-of-a-kind comedy queen she is today.

Meanwhile, Sean Ghazi will be entertaining the audience with TARAKUCHA!, a unique big-band jazz performance with a vintage Malaysian twist.

Malaysian comedian Joanne Kam Poh would be performing her one-woman comedy special as part of her latest La La Lian nationwide tour.

Ghazi will be singing alongside jazz singer Ida Marianna with tunes from the golden jazz era by P. Ramlee, Sudirman as well as Jimmy Boyle.

To add to the festivity, MPO will also be returning to the annual festival to entertain with a variety of tunes.

Festival director Suzie Yap said the spotlight on local acts was something that the festival had always done.

“We are proud of our local artistes and we want to use this stage to show them off,” she said, adding that while a large number of the performers were local, several foreign acts were also roped in to be part of the festival.

Among the international acts that will be featured during the festival is Berlin-based Vision String Quartet, a group of musicians who break barriers by fusing classical compositions with pop music.

On top of all this, screenings of Yasmin Ahmad’s classic films and a special book launch called Yasmin, I Lup Chew, a photography exhibition by Zulkiflie Maarof from Sidekick Projext Enterprise, a special one-man theatre showcase from Singapore called Kulit On The Go and a unique Bharatanatyam performance by dance guru Ajith Baskar are among the entertainment in store for visitors.
