KUALA TERENGGANU: The University of Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has set up free accommodation facility called the “Caravanserai” for parents accompanying their children to the varsity for its 2018/2019 intake on Sept 2 and 3.
UMT's Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre director Dr Riswadi Azmi said the Caravanserai, believed to be among the first to be introduced in Malaysia, would be for parents and families without any accommodation.
The concept offers facilities and services to the families of more than 2,000 students travelling to the university, Dr Riswadi said in a statement.
He said the idea was mooted because of the various costs parents had to bear when they came from different parts of the country just to enrol their children into the university.
The Caravanserai service at Masjid UMT will provide free accommodation, breakfast and car ‘‘check-in'' for parents and disadvantaged students who have no accommodation.
Dr Riswadi added that those who wished to contribute to the Caravanserai@Masjid UMT project could do so through the Sultan Mahmud UMT Islamic Centre.
Parents who are interested in using the Caravanserai service at UMT can call 011-1143 3759 or 09-668 4274 for details. —Bernama
