MELAKA: Bemban assemblyman Dr Wong Fort Pin has made it his mission to get residents of this little town in the Jasin district to fly the Jalur Gemilang.

Dr Wong said he would like to see more people hoisting the national flag to celebrate National Day and has taken the lead by decorating his service centre with flags.

“I want to take the opportunity to beat other districts in showing our patriotism,” he said.

“I hope the constituents here will take the initiative to make Bemban the town with the most number of Jalur Gemilang being flown in the country,” he said.

Dr Wong, who is also the state Deputy Speaker, said he started the campaign at the beginning of the month.

“So far, several areas are following suit. It is so nice to see the flags all around.

“Raising the Jalur Gemilang is also to show our gratitude to our founding fathers.

“I hope Bemban folks will unite to make Merdeka a memorable occasion, regardless of their political affiliation,” he said.
