ISKANDAR PUTERI: The 14th General Election (GE14) result only proves that Malaysia’s democracy is alive and well, says a Barisan Nasional assemblyman.

Rengit assemblyman Ayub Jamil said the power transition from Barisan to Pakatan Harapan went smoothly but in many countries, chaos and even bloodshed had happened.

“But, I also recall that during GE13, Pakatan made many allegations against Barisan that was given the mandate by the people, and held demonstrations claiming that democracy in Malaysia was dead,” he said at the Johor State Assembly sitting.

He also said that Barisan, for over 60 years, had administered the country, in particular Johor well, where they had left the state in a good financial position with billions in its reserve.

Ayub added that Barisan assemblymen were willing to help Pakatan in their administration by offering advice and constructive criticism.

He said Pakatan’s “great manifesto” helped them win.

“However, their leader had once said that the manifesto was not a holy book where everything must be followed but I want to remind them that a promise is a promise, they need to fulfil what they told the rakyat,” he said.
