Hotel bar celebrates its appearance in movie

WHEN Hollywood came calling, they answered.

Watch out for The St Regis Kuala Lumpur’s Astor Bar when it makes a grand appearance in the highly anticipated movie, Crazy Rich Asians, opening in theatres nationwide next week.

In one of the movie’s most glamorous scenes, Astor Bar was transformed into a luxurious jewellery store where the character Astrid, Nick’s fashionable cousin who is referred to as “the Goddess”, is introduced. For one night only, Astor Bar played the role as one of the world’s most exclusive jewellery store.

Known for its modern-day glamour with old-world elegance, Astor Bar’s brass-trimmed panelled entrance with custom-made hammered-brass door knobs reveal an inviting bar area set against horse-hair wall panels, rich leather, brass accents and luxurious black-and-gold marble.

Under gold leaf ceilings and a breathtaking gold domed ceiling, Astor Bar was converted into the Crazy Rich Asians set, turning its custom-made gold wine cellar fridges into jewellery display cases for the unforgettable jewellery store scene featuring Astrid.

Astor Bar also features a Cigar Lounge, equipped with a special air filtration system and private storage lockers for personal prized cigar collections.

The bar’s richly layered and exacting detailed interiors convey the hallmark St Regis heritage and legacy of the Astor’s, just as it exudes in the film.

In celebration of Astor Bar’s “special guest appearance” in Crazy Rich Asians, guests can now order “The Astrid”, a specially concocted, limited-edition cocktail of Jose Cuervo silver tequila, pomegranate juice, lemon bitter and Elderflower foam.

The movie Crazy Rich Asians is based on the bestselling 2013 novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan.
