THE Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce has joined hands with a law firm to hold seminars to enhance members’ knowledge of business laws.
Chamber vice-president Datuk Tan Hiang Joo said Lee Hishammuddin Allen and Gledhill (LHAG) was committed to providing customised legal solutions to businesses, including government-linked companies.
“This is the first time our chamber is collaborating with LHAG to promote legal knowledge to our members.
“We hope they will find these seminars highly beneficial,” he said at a recent seminar at the chamber’s Tan Kok Ping Hall in Light Street.
The seminar, titled ‘Legal Outreach — Towards a Better Informed Business Community’, covered sub-topics ranging from the Properties Act to the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Sales and Services Tax (SST) issues.
Tan said he hoped the re-introduction of the SST would not cause inflation that would affect the business environment.
“We hope that the new Federal Government will make good use of the tax collection from SST,” he said.
The SST will come into force effective Sept 1 following a three-month ‘tax holiday’ period granted by the Pakatan Harapan Government after zero-rating the GST on June 1, in fulfilling its general election pledge.
