JOHOR BARU: Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation will host a charity concert on Sept 1 at Persada Johor, featuring artistes Datuk Ramli Sarip, Dayang Nurfaizah and Ayai to collect funds for cancer patients.
Foundation board of directors member Datuk Ismail Karim said RM3mil is expected to be collected from the charity concert dubbed Doa buat kekasih.
“The foundation has been able to reach out to at least 1,000 cancer patients since its inception in 2016.
“As of June this year, RM5.95mil has also been channelled to facilitate treatment of patients in Johor,” he said in a press conference on the concert.
The tickets are priced between RM10,000 and RM100,000 per table while individual seats are priced at RM1,000.
“There will be eight seats at each table, with two reserved for cancer fighters registered with the foundation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ayai from a local band called “Ilusi” said one of the songs he will perform during the charity concert is a song written by the late Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil Sultan Ibrahim titled Cebisan Cahaya.
“The song was first written by me and was initially meant to be sung by Tunku Abdul Jalil.
“He listened to the song while he was sick and although he was unable to sing it due to his condition, he requested for its lyrics to be changed into those that would reflect the journey of cancer patients,” he said, adding that Tunku then wrote the lyrics for the song.
Ramli said the two-hour concert would be entertaining and meaningful for donors and cancer patients.
“The concert includes songs that are both sad and cheerful to suit the theme of the evening.
“The royal family as well as the cancer foundation are also involved in the selection of songs for the concert,” he said.
