PROPERTY developer Mah Sing Group Bhd, through its charity arm Mah Sing Foundation, held its first musical night to celebrate RM6.63mil in donations raised so far this year.
The musical, held at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) in Sentul, narrated the history of Mah Sing and the founding of its charitable arm in 2005 to an audience of dignitaries, donors and beneficiaries.
Eight organisations were present to receive donations, including Mercy Malaysia, World Vision Malaysia and Yayasan Generasi Gemilang.
In his opening remarks, Mah Sing Foundation chairman Datuk Syed Norulzaman Syed Kamarulzaman thanked the donors for their contributions.
“This year marks the 13th anniversary of Mah Sing Foundation’s establishment and we are extremely privileged to have the support of our generous donors.
“We consider ourselves a young and vibrant organisation and are always eager to make a positive difference to lives.
“In fact, since 2015, we have contributed more than RM8mil as well as helped more than 10,000 people.”
Together with its new vision of “Reinventing Hope, Creating Lasting Change in Children’s Lives”, Indera said the foundation was focusing on education, health and wellbeing as well as community development.
“Our transformation announced last year was a pivotal point as the areas of focus acted as a blueprint for our foundation’s direction, allowing us to streamline our efforts,” he added.
Also present was Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz, who expressed his gratitude to the foundation for giving back to society.
“It is great to see a big corporation like Mah Sing working together with partners and associates to reach out to underprivileged communities and giving back to society.
“I applaud Mah Sing Foundatioon for collaborating on education-focused projects with Yayasan Generasi Gemilang and Osai Foundation, as well as working with charitable organisation such as Daybreak Disabilities.
“This is in line with the Govern-ment’s efforts to create a sustainable environment for every level of society to develop together,” Amin Nordin said.
Appearing before a packed audience were performers from the award-winning Dama Asia theatre company as well as Mah Sing’s own staff.
The 90-minute show featured songs such as I Have a Dream and Money, Money, Money by Abba and Whitney Houston’s One Moment in Time.
The music was selected to portray Mah Sing’s trials and tribulations over the past 40 years.
“We went way beyond the standard show entertainment work and produced it like a full-scale performing arts production,” said Dama Asia artistic director Pun Kai Loon.
Mah Sing Foundation will be launching several flagship programmes, such as the Community+ and School+ projects which aim to reach out to underprivileged families and students.
