BANDAR Bukit Tinggi Residents Association (RA) is one of the oldest RAs in the area.
The 17-year-old group prides itself on looking out for the needs of all residents in the vicinity.
It is the main RA in the township, looking after both the Bukit Tinggi 1 and 2 neighbourhoods in Klang.
There are about 15 other smaller RAs in both neighbourhoods that oversee their respective areas.
“We endorse the other RAs which are formed in the respective areas, more for the purpose of gated-and-guarded schemes, and they handle their own funding respectively,” said Bandar Bukit Tinggi RA chairman Gan Ee Chai.
The RA does not deal with individual RA operations or handle funds. Rather, the group oversees the entire neighbourhood as a whole.
Gan has been the chairman for the past 15 years and has since organised numerous get-togethers for all residents in the area.
The biggest so far this year was the Chinese New Year celebration filled with various performances and activities.
“We also carry out other activities such as gotong-royong, dengue-related events and fundraisers for our ‘achievement recognition giveaway’ where we reward children who score straight As in their exams,” he said.
The RA also gives out funds to deserving university students in the neighbourhood.
“I think we are the first and only RA that does fundraising activities and giveaways like this,” he said.
Bukit Tinggi 1 measures to more than 364ha, while Bukit Tinggi 2 is about 202ha.
