THE state government has plans to move its administrative centre from its current location at Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab to Meru Raya.

Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu (PH-Chenderiang) said the development would include the official residence of the Mentri Besar, state executive councillors, state secretary, state finance office and state legal adviser.

“A hall for the use of all is also in the pipeline,” he said during the question and answer session at the state assembly on Tuesday.

Ahmad Faizal added that the move was to make it easier for people to deal with the various departments.

However, he said they needed to look into transportation issues first before going ahead with the plan.

“We must make sure people are able to travel to Meru Raya, which is about 8km away from the city,” he added.

Ahmad Faizal was replying to a question from Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir (BN-Pangkor), who asked if the state had plans to build a new official residence for the Mentri Besar.

He also asked if the Mentri Besar was using two residences, which is the current Mentri Besar official residence and the state secretary official residence.

Ahmad Faizal added that the Mentri Besar’s official residence was being used for official functions, as it had a lot of space.

He said the former state secretary official residence would now be turned into the Mentri Besar official residence.
