ST NICHOLAS Home for the Blind will hold its 8th Home Charity Food Carnival at its premises in Jalan Bagan Jermal on Sept 8.

Visitors will be delighted with the array of food at some 60 stalls, which are expected to be set up during the event and children can look forward to the carnival’s petting zoo.

The event, to be held from 9am to 2pm, aims to raise up to RM150,000 for the home, which has been assisting blind and visually-impaired persons for close to 92 years.

The home’s executive director, Daniel Soon, said over the decades, the home has been able to provide its services free of charge, thanks to generous contributions from organisations and individuals.

“The home relies heavily on donations, sponsorships and revenue generated from charity events.

“All proceeds from this carnival will be channelled towards creating awareness and to our educational and skills training programmes.

“It would be able to benefit our trainees directly,” he said during a recent press conference at Komtar.

He urged those interested to set up a stall at the carnival or sponsor a stall at RM800 each.

For sponsorship of a stall, donors will get a tax-exempted receipt.

Also present was state Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committeechairman Phee Boon Poh.

Visitors can buy the coupons for the fair, priced at RM20 per sheet, at the home’s reception counter.
