KUALA Lumpur members of parliament have been given two weeks to submit their choice of candidates to sit on the DBKL Advisory Board.
Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said MPs could submit their nominees, but added that the individuals must be professionals with the capability to carry out their duties.
“This is not going to be the place to reward political support, this is for people who are passionate about topics like environment and sustainable living,’’ he said.
Khalid was speaking to reporters at the inaugural consultative council meeting with MPs and Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz at the DBKL headquarters today.
Khalid said that once he received the list, he would discuss it with Amin Nordin and FT Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Adnan Mohd Ikhsan.
“We are also reviewing the Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) board members as well,’’ he said, adding that the ministry was looking at non-governmental organisation and experts in fields that can bring positive influence and change to the administration of the city.
In the past, board members were appointed by the previous administration, and more than half were political appointees from the Barisan Nasional.
Six MPs turned up for the meeting while five had sent their representatives.
The six were Tan Kok Wai (Cheras), Lim Lip Eng (Kepong), Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai), Fung Kui Lun (Bukit Bintang), Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew (Wangsa Maju) and P. Prabakaran (Batu).
