JOHOR BARU: The capital city of Johor was initially called Tanjung Puteri under the administration of Temenggong Daing Ibrahim, back in 1855.

Succeeded by his son, Temenggong Abu Bakar who was later crowned the Sultan of Johor by Queen Victoria of England in 1886, Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor implemented a state constitution, developed a British-style administration and constructed the Istana Besar, the official residence of the Sultan.
