KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government will continue to help raise the income and standard of living of 32,411 single mothers in the state, said Welfare, Women and Family Development and National Unity Committee chairman Hanafiah Mat.
He said there were two special complexes for the group to carry out various activities, at Kampung Serdang Baru in Kuala Nerus and in Chendering.
He said the state government, through the Terengganu Family Development Foundation (YPKT), would also continue to assist single mothers, including helping them in terms of business financing.
“For example, the ‘Pinjaman Jaya Diri’ programme has allocated RM474,000 to help 52 single mothers to venture into business, in the first six months of this year.
“Most of them are in beauty, clothing and food businesses,” he said.
Meanwhile, state Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said the state government needed more than RM63mil to complete the five projects at the Duty Free Zone in Pulau Bayas near Tasik Kenyir, Hulu Terengganu.
As of Oct 31, last year, he said the project was only 77.53% completed at a cost of RM144mil.
“All these projects should have been completed with an original allocation of RM207mil but only one out of six projects has been completed so far,” he said. – Bernama
